The
ES Encyclopedia supplies an ever-growing body of
short articles and descriptions of people, places and things that inhabit the
world of The Eylau Sequence. It is a great help to those wishing for a
better understanding of the background to current Eylau Sequence short stories
and gaming. If there is a favorite entry that you would like to see added,

Pike
EU3 "Pike" is a medium MGV designed by Caffarelli and built at
their manufacturing facility in Ragusa. The Pike pre-dates both the EU4 Pilum
and the AU8 Sarrisa, and was one of the first vehicle designs to feature a
collar shield; the tapered superstructure built out from both sides of
the hull.

Pilum The EU4
"Pilum" is a heavy MGV designed by Caffarelli and built at an
undisclosed location on the North African coast. It was introduced as a
replacement for the older MA90 and features a tighter profile coupled with more
advanced fire control and communications suites.
The Pilum has a
striking appearance, including a prominent and sharply defined collar shield
which terminates as a spike antennae projecting above the upper hull spine.
Behind the collar shield the hull chokes inward before resuming its previous
profile adjoining the aft power transducers. As with almost all MGV designs,
the lev-drive system is entirely internal and none of its elements are evident
on the exterior of the vehicle's hull. The Pilum has twin firing ports in the
nose which allows the center-mount rotary launcher to conduct alternating
battery fire. The Pilum's only weakness is armor protection that is somewhat
light compared to other HMGV units, but its relatively heavy long-range
firepower and slender profile assure a plentiful supply of "noses" to put into
a fight. The Pilum is a cutting edge unit and a dangerous opponent when present
in numbers likely to be employed for assault and point defense purposes. |

Python The J90
"Python" is a Japanese MGV which caused a stir with its devastating
effectiveness. It is more commonly called the "J-Ring" or "J90" rather than its
official code name. The orignal J90 has been superseded by a newer model about
which little is known (keeping in mind that not much is known about the
original version).
The Pythons were a mystery when they first appeared.
For many months nothing they encountered survived, and supporting Japanese MGVs
assured a full battlesite clean-up. It was only when pieces of some J90s were
recovered from a downed Selangor orbital ship that its full size and
formidability were finally hinted at.
There is still a lot that is not
known about them, but planetary scientists do know this: they are extremely
dangerous, even in small numbers. Unlike previous MGVs, whose large size were
the result of less sophisticated technology, the J90 "super MGVs" are large
battlesite killers capable of wiping out whole formations of enemy MGVs at very
long ranges. Despite their size, their visual and sensor signature makes them
difficult to spot and target.
Their main weapon appears to use a
vectored beam that collapses targeted surface and any immediately opposing
surface with a vise-like pressure, effectively crushing together the two
surfaces. The result on targeted MGVs is generation of crushed impact-like
fracture zones across the vehicle's cross sections - hence the J90's code name
"Python" for its crushing power. This places the weapon in the Class K
(kinetic) category. |
